A recently commissioned solar power plant had trouble operating for months and was eventually closed for an investigation. The investigation lasted for 30 days and revealed that hackers gained access to the inverter, the key component of the solar power plant which ensures that energy generated by the solar units is delivered to consumers. The hackers would then entertain themselves by generating fake errors on the operator's workstation so that the staff had to manually disable the inverter and call out a repair crew each time an error occurred. These disruptions made the plant's operation highly ineffective.
